Average annual sales of the Florida Wildflower Specialty
License Plate for five full years of sales show that 17,431 tags
have been sold annually. With $15 proceeds for each sale, proceeds
of more than $260,000 annually have been made available for native
wildflowers and plants, totaling more than $1.3 million.
Sales of the
wildflower tag increased for four consecutive years from 2002
before peaking in 2005 with 19,137 sales. A slight decrease occurred
in sales for 2006, with 18,775 tags sold, but the past year's
totals significantly exceeded the five-year average. Among 104
specialty plates distributed by the Department of Highway Safety
and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), the Wildflower tag has ranked in the
Top 25 in previous years and currently ranks 28th.
Competition
for selection is intense among the more than 100 specialty plates
in Florida, including those for universities, professional sports
teams, and other environmental and social concerns and causes.
More than 50 new specialty license plates have been approved and
have hit the market since the Wildflower Specialty Tag first began
sales in May 2001. Sales for the Wildflower tag have been greater
than for 48 other specialty tags that have been introduced in
the past five years.
