"Seeds for Schools" grant program

The Seeds for Schools program provides Florida native ecotype wildflower seeds for school gardens statewide. The program uses the gardens to accomplish three overarching goals:
  • Help students achieve state academic standards.
  • Get children outside to discover nature.
  • Increase children’s awareness of the environmental, historical and cultural significance of Florida’s unique flora and fauna.
In 2010, 80 schools received grants and will plant wildflower gardens in the fall. Grants from the Foundation include $50 worth of seed, plus classroom and garden resources. The Foundation also contributes staff expertise and recruits garden volunteers from partner organizations, including the Florida Native Plant Society and Association of Florida Native Nurseries. Seed for the project is provided by the Florida Wildflower Seed and Plant Growers Association.

The 2011 grant application period opens in April. To receive alerts of the program opening, join our email news list by clicking here to fill out a contact form.
