Dear
Fellow Floridian,
I
have always loved Florida's wildflowers. Early in the spring, phlox
seem to appear from nowhere; followed by blue Iris, yellow coreopsis,
blanket flowers and black-eyed Susan. Tall spires of goldenrod and
purple liatris grace our area in the fall. Wildflowers along the
roadsides beckon us and quiet our minds.
Ponce
de Leon named Florida, " land of flowers" for its abundance of
wildflowers. Today, Florida's wildflowers provide significant economic,
ecologic, historic, cultural, and aesthetic value. The popularity of
wildflowers creates opportunities and challenges that are beyond the
authority and ability of any single agency, organization, or individual.
The
Florida Wildflower Foundation was established in 2001 as a 501(c) (3)
charitable corporation for the purpose of restoring native wildflowers
and grasses in Florida. To accomplish this purpose, the Foundation
supports and funds educational, research and planting grants throughout
the state.
